Luxury Al Andalus Train Journeys | Routes, Cabins & Dates

The Al Andalus luxury train is Spain’s most elegant heritage rail journey, forming part of our curated collection of luxury train journeys in Spain. Operating between Seville and Madrid, with carefully curated itineraries including Córdoba, Cádiz, Jerez, Granada and Toledo, the train combines Belle Époque carriages with immersive cultural touring.

Unlike high-speed rail or hotel-based touring, the Al Andalus train provides a moving five-star experience where accommodation, dining and guided exploration are seamlessly integrated. By day, guests explore Moorish palaces, Roman ruins and grand cathedrals with expert local guides. By evening, they return to private en-suite cabins and refined lounge cars that evoke the golden age of rail travel.

Is the Al Ándalus Luxury Train worth it?

The Luxury Train Travel Company specialises exclusively in luxury rail journeys in Europe and worldwide and provides confirmed departure dates, cabin selection guidance and tailored Spain extensions. Why Book Al Ándalus with LTTC

Why choose Al Ándalus?

The Al Andalus offers a distinctly Andalusian experience compared to other European luxury trains. Rather than focusing on dramatic mountain scenery or long-distance travel, the journey centres on cultural immersion within southern Spain’s most historic cities. Guests visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Córdoba’s Mezquita, the Alcázar of Seville and the Alhambra in Granada, alongside lesser-known Roman ruins and traditional bodegas.

The train itself consists of restored 1920s carriages, once used by British royalty and now carefully preserved to retain their Belle Époque character. Interiors feature polished wood panelling, classic lounge spaces and elegant restaurant cars, creating a timeless atmosphere rather than a modern, ultra-contemporary aesthetic.

Compared with northern Spain’s luxury trains such as the Transcantábrico or Costa Verde Express, Al Andalus places greater emphasis on Moorish architecture, flamenco heritage and Andalusian gastronomy. For travellers seeking guided cultural depth in a warm Mediterranean climate, it is often considered one of the most immersive journeys within our Spain luxury rail collection.

Al Andalus 2026 Dates & Pricing Overview

Al Andalus journeys operate seasonally, typically in spring and autumn, with departures running between Seville, Madrid and other key Andalusian cities depending on the itinerary.

Pricing varies according to route length, cabin category and departure date. Indicative prices generally start from approximately €6,600 per person, based on shared cabin accommodation and including onboard meals, excursions and guided visits.

For current availability and confirmed departures, please view our Al Andalus Train departures Calendar or speak with a luxury rail specialist.

Selecting a journey will open a detailed PDF brochure containing full day-by-day itineraries, suite categories, inclusions and current pricing. These brochures provide a comprehensive overview of what to expect onboard and during guided excursions.

Prices are published in Euros; however, as a UK-based specialist, we can quote and accept payment in GBP, USD, AUD, CAD, SGD and most major currencies. Please contact our team for a confirmed quotation in your preferred currency.

From managing annual availability and client demand, we see spring and autumn departures fill particularly quickly. Due to limited suite availability and strong demand, we strongly recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for peak spring and autumn departures.

Our specialists are happy to advise on the best departure dates, suite categories and seasonal considerations before you book.

Bookings typically require a deposit at confirmation, with the balance payable prior to departure. Due to the limited number of cabins onboard and the train’s seasonal operation in spring and autumn, availability can become restricted well in advance. Deluxe cabins and single occupancy bookings are particularly limited. We therefore recommend securing preferred departure dates as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Al Ándalus Onboard Experience & Heritage

The Al Andalus onboard experience blends restored heritage design with relaxed refinement. The train’s carriages date from the 1920s and were originally built for British royalty before being meticulously restored for luxury rail travel in Spain. Interiors showcase polished wood, period detailing and classic lounge spaces that evoke the golden age of European rail.

Dining takes place in beautifully appointed restaurant cars where regional Andalusian cuisine is served alongside carefully selected Spanish wines. Menus reflect local traditions, often highlighting seasonal produce from the regions visited. Breakfast and many lunches are enjoyed onboard, while selected dinners may be taken in renowned local restaurants during excursions.

The train features dedicated lounge and bar cars, providing space to relax between guided visits. Evenings are smart-casual rather than formal, contributing to a comfortable and sociable atmosphere. Unlike ultra-formal luxury trains elsewhere in Europe, the Al Andalus prioritises cultural immersion and relaxed elegance over strict dress codes.

Al Andalus Luxury Train Cabin Classes

Cabin categories vary across Europe’s leading luxury trains, but Al Andalus maintains a classic two-category structure. Cabins on the Al Andalus luxury train are designed to provide privacy and comfort during multi-night travel through southern Spain. Each cabin includes independent climate control, private en-suite facilities and attentive cabin service. During the day, cabins function as compact sitting spaces before being converted into bedrooms each evening by onboard attendants. Two categories are available: Gran Clase and Deluxe.

Deluxe Class Cabins | Al Andalus Luxury Train

Deluxe cabins offer increased floor space, a larger bed configuration (double) and a more spacious bathroom layout. They provide additional comfort for travellers seeking greater room to relax between excursions or celebrating a special occasion. Deluxe cabins are limited in number and tend to sell out earlier for peak spring and autumn departures.

Comfortable and spacious private bathroom with a shower, hairdryer and varied set of welcome and bath items with unique fragrance and toilet bag. All suites are air-conditioned with independent adjustment. During the day the room is a comfortable living room with a sofa, while at night the beds are folded to become an impeccable bedroom.

For longer journeys, we generally find that Deluxe Suites provide the most comfortable balance of space and privacy.

Deluxe cabin size is 8,5 m² (91 sq ft) with a Queen bed 150cm x 200 cm (4.92 ft × 6.56 ft)

Gran Class Cabins | Al Andalús Luxury Train

Gran Clase cabins are efficiently designed twin-bedded cabins with private en-suite bathrooms including shower, washbasin and WC. While compact, they provide comfortable sleeping arrangements and practical storage space for the duration of the journey. Gran Clase is well suited to couples or friends prioritising itinerary and cultural exploration over cabin size.

Gran Clase cabin size is 6,5 m² (70 sq ft) with 2 twin beds 80cm x 150 cm (2.62 ft × 4.92 ft)

Classic Andalusia Route

Al Ándalus Routes & Itineraries

The classic itinerary explored the highlights of Andalusia over seven days and six nights. Key stops typically include Seville, Córdoba, Cádiz, Ronda, Granada, Úbeda and Baeza — many of them UNESCO World Heritage sites. This itinerary will not be running in 2026 and instead is replaced with the folowing route:

Madrid ● Aranjuez ● Toledo ● Alcázar de San Juan ● Cáceres ● Mérida ● Jerez ● Cádiz ● Córdoba ● Seville.

Excursions are carefully curated, from guided visits to Córdoba’s Mezquita to wandering whitewashed towns and historic city centres, all accompanied by expert local guides. However, due to rail engineering work during 2026 that season will be running a new route – see below.

Al Andalus Madris to Seville Route Map LTTC
Al Andalus Madris to Seville Route Map LTTC

Extended & New Routes

For 2026 the traditional Andalusian circuit talked about above is being replaced with a newer itinerary that extends beyond the south with the new route linking Seville with Madrid. This brand new journey introduces regions such as Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha, offering a broader cultural perspective for travellers who may already know Andalusia well. We hope that in 2027 both the traditional route and this new route will run offering the best possible experience of Central and Southern Spain. In our experience, this itinerary offers the most complete cultural overview of Southern Spain available on any luxury train.

Life Onboard the Al Andalus Train

Days are unhurried yet full, with breakfast enjoyed onboard before guided excursions, followed by leisurely lunches either on the train or in local restaurants – we found the food to be excellent in either and a real highlight – but then this is Spain so not a surprise with that! Evenings are social and relaxed, with dinner served in elegant dining cars accompanied by Spanish wines. Clients often remark on the relaxed rhythm of life onboard, where days feel unhurried and evenings retain a quietly elegant atmosphere.

Lounge cars provide space to read, converse or simply watch the landscapes drift past. Dress is smart-casual by day, with guests often choosing to dress more formally for dinner, reflecting the refined nature of the journey. However, it must be noted that formal dress is not a requirement and we wore a shirt and trousers at the evening meals.

How the Al Andalus Compares to Other Luxury Trains in Spain

Spain offers several high-end rail journeys, including the Transcantábrico Gran Lujo and Costa Verde Express in the north. While those routes highlight Atlantic coastlines and lush green landscapes, the Al Andalus focuses on Andalucía’s Moorish heritage, Roman history and Mediterranean character.

Compared with pan-European trains such as the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, the Al Andalus operates shorter, regionally immersive itineraries with a strong emphasis on guided exploration. It is particularly appealing to travellers who value structured cultural touring combined with elegant heritage accommodation.

For guests primarily interested in southern Spain’s architecture, cuisine and history, the Al Andalus is often the most logical luxury rail choice.

  • An unforgettable journey through Spain! Your arrangements went exactly to plan. The Al Andalus experience had a good combination of history, attentive staff, and delicious meals and overall we couldn’t be more pleased by the holiday.

All Al Andalus journeys include guided sightseeing, entrance fees, onboard meals, selected drinks and transfers. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer the most pleasant temperatures and vibrant landscapes. Summer departures are possible but best suited to travellers comfortable with warmer conditions.

Who Is the Al Andalus Train Best For?

Is the Al Andalus Worth It?

For travellers seeking a structured, culturally immersive journey through Andalucía without changing hotels daily, the Al Andalus offers compelling value. While prices typically begin from around €6,600 per person, the fare includes accommodation, most meals, guided excursions, entrance fees, selected wines and seamless luggage handling — elements that would otherwise require significant planning and coordination independently.

Compared with organising a high-end private tour across Seville, Córdoba and Granada, the train delivers a cohesive experience with expert local guides and a consistent standard of comfort throughout. It is particularly well suited to travellers who prefer organised exploration, historic atmosphere and refined onboard living over self-drive touring or large group coach travel.

Practical FAQs

Al Andalus journeys are designed to be largely all-inclusive. Fares typically include accommodation in a private en-suite cabin (Deluxe or Grand Class, depending on category), all onboard meals inspired by Andalusian cuisine, selected wines and beverages during meals, guided excursions with professional local guides, entrance fees to monuments and heritage sites, luxury coach transfers for off-train visits, luggage handling, and the services of an onboard escort team throughout the journey.
Selected lunches may be taken in carefully chosen local restaurants to showcase regional gastronomy. Personal purchases, premium drinks beyond included selections, travel insurance and gratuities are generally not included.

Both are operated in Spain, but they offer distinctly different experiences.
Al Andalus travels through southern Spain — Andalusia — focusing on cities such as Seville, Córdoba and Granada, with an emphasis on Moorish architecture, flamenco heritage and Mediterranean cuisine. Cabins are comfortable and elegant, though generally more compact than the Superior Suites on the Transcantábrico Gran Lujo.
The Transcantábrico Gran Lujo is positioned as Spain’s most exclusive northern train with larger suites and fewer passengers. Al Andalus offers a refined yet slightly more traditional and culturally immersive experience in southern Spain.
Travellers choose between them primarily based on geography and preferred style of luxury.

Yes. Al Andalus is particularly popular with mature travellers who enjoy escorted cultural touring at a comfortable pace.
Daily excursions involve guided visits to historic cities, palaces and cathedrals. While there is walking involved — often on cobbled streets or within large historic complexes — the pace is structured and manageable for reasonably mobile guests. Coach transfers are used between major sites.
The train provides hotel-style comfort without the need to pack and unpack daily, which many guests find appealing.

Excursions typically include guided walking tours through UNESCO-listed historic centres such as Seville, Córdoba and Granada, as well as visits to monuments including the Alhambra and Mezquita.
Walking distances vary by day and can involve steps or uneven surfaces within historic sites. Guests should be comfortable walking for moderate periods. Rest stops are usually incorporated during visits.
Those with specific mobility concerns are encouraged to discuss suitability in advance.

Al Andalus generally travels during daylight hours and remains stationary overnight. This allows guests to enjoy uninterrupted sleep and ensures that scenic landscapes and city approaches are experienced during the day.
The focus is on cultural immersion and relaxed travel rather than long overnight rail stretches.

The atmosphere onboard Al Andalus is elegant but not overly formal. Smart casual attire is suitable during the day for sightseeing. In the evenings, many guests choose to dress smartly for dinner, though formal black-tie dress is not required.
The ambience reflects classic Spanish heritage with a refined yet welcoming tone.

Yes. Solo travellers are welcome, and single occupancy cabins are available, subject to availability and a supplement.
Communal dining and shared excursions create a sociable atmosphere, while private en-suite cabins provide personal space. The escorted format makes the journey accessible and comfortable for independent travellers.

Al Andalus is best suited to travellers seeking a culturally rich luxury rail journey through southern Spain. It appeals particularly to couples and discerning guests interested in Andalusian history, Moorish architecture, flamenco traditions and regional gastronomy.
It is ideal for those who prefer an escorted, hotel-style rail experience with heritage character, rather than ultra-modern suite space. Travellers prioritising cultural depth and historic cities often find Al Andalus the most compelling luxury train option in Spain.
