The African Explorer is a luxury train that offers two categories of compartments with single or double beds, two air-conditioned restaurant car cars and a bar car. There's also a lounge car with panoramic windows and an observation platform at the end. Every night, three-course meals are served. You can relax with a drink or a glass South African wine in the bar car which is open 24 hours a day. This is a great spot to read and host fascinating talks on board.
Your private train does not have a dress code and evening attire is not required. Throughout the trip, laundry services are available. Large luggage can be stored under the beds or on the top luggage racks. We recommend soft shell luggage over hard shell because there is not enough space. A doctor will be present throughout the journey to ensure your safety and comfort.
BOOKING AS FAR AHEAD AS YOU CAN IN ADVANCE IS ESSENTIAL FOR THESE TOURS
FOOD & DRINK ON THE AFRICAN EXPLORER
Two air-conditioned restaurant cars, the African Explorer, serves African and European cuisines. Three-course dinners are always a highlight. You can enjoy a refreshing Windhoek Lager or South Africa's most famous wines in the bar car. Also, you can listen to your tour guide give presentations, read a book, or engage in stimulating conversation with fellow travelers.
THE OBSERVATION CAR ON THE AFRICAN EXPLORER
The African Explorer could be described as a hotel on wheels. However, the open observation platform in the lounge car can also double up as a porch. The uninterrupted views of the wilderness are a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. They allow you to see rare animals in their natural habitat, as well as make it possible to take incredible photos. It's not a place where annoying streaks or reflections can be seen in photos through windows. Instead, it's a direct connection with nature that makes your trip a safari on rails.
