How far in advance should I book the Eastern & Oriental Express train?

This exclusive train tour has limited departures throughout the year. To avoid disappointment, we strongly advise booking as far in advance as possible, especially for higher-level cabins which are in high demand.

What Passports & Visa requirements are there for a trip on the Eastern & Oriental Express train?

All visitors to Malaysia must have a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity from the date of return. It is each passenger’s responsibility to ensure they have the necessary visas and documentation. The company assumes no responsibility for any failure to comply.

Ensure your passport has at least 6 months of validity from your arrival date. This applies to both adult and child passports. Renewed passports may have extra months added, which may not count towards the required 6 months.

Are your tours financially protected?

Trips sold as packages to UK clients come with financial protection through our ATOL if the trip includes a flight or insurances that comply with UK package travel regulations for non-flight trips. Our ABTA membership ensures adherence to their strict code of conduct. Trips sold as an agent for the train operator do not come with financial protection, but your booking with the operator remains valid even in the event of our insolvency.

What are the customs formalities between Singapore and Malaysia?

Customs regulations align with global standards, with serious penalties for prohibited items, particularly narcotics. The death penalty may apply in certain cases.

Eastern & Oriental Express staff will assist with border formalities, but passengers must ensure they have valid documentation. The train stops at the Singaporean/Malaysian Customs and Immigration facility, where passengers must disembark with their hand luggage while main luggage undergoes screening.

At Woodlands Checkpoint, passengers clear Singaporean exit procedures themselves, and cabin stewards will handle Malaysian immigration formalities. On the return journey, this process is repeated.

Will I need to tip the Eastern & Oriental Express staff?

What is the luggage allowance on the Eastern & Oriental Express train??

Luggage is limited to 30kg per person for Pullman and State Compartment passengers. Presidential Suite guests may bring one 30kg piece of luggage plus one hand luggage. No special health certificates are required, but consult your medical practitioner or travel specialist. Quarantine applies to travellers affected by yellow fever.
