What is the Maharajas’ Express?
The Maharaja Express, the latest addition to India’s fleet of luxury trains, is now available. The only luxury train that takes guests on a pan Indian journey. It took its maiden voyage in October 2010.
What is included in the price?
Maharajas’ Express prices include travel, lodging, meals, drinks, house-brands of wine, beer, and spirits, as well as sightseeing at the destination. Tariff also includes monument entrance fees, guides, tour managers and still camera fees.
However, the tariff excludes laundry, telephone calls and gratuities as well as liquors and alcoholic drinks (other than house brands of wine, beer and spirit). The tariff excludes video, film and professional still cameras fees.
What is the smoking policy?
According to Indian law, it is illegal to smoke in trains and other public places.
What is the dress code on board?
For the daytime, smart casual is recommended. Clothing with muted colours will be appropriate for a jungle safari. Formal attire for dinners should reflect the event and show consideration for other travellers. It is advisable to bring walking shoes as the itinerary includes walking excursions.
Are there guides?
All excursions will be led by a professional guide who is well versed in the area. On request, guests can arrange for foreign language guides at an additional charge.
What language is used on board?
All crew members speak English fluently.
How can I pay for items on board?
Maharajas’ Express accepts all major credit cards.
Is alcohol included?
Your booking amount includes the cost of meals as well as house brands of alcoholic drinks. But you will have to pay for the wines and spirits served at the bar. You can also avail of A la Carte meals and snacks at additional charge.
Can children join the train?
Maharajas’ Express accepts children on board.
How much luggage can I bring?
We ask that guests carry luggage that meets the standards set by international airlines. We recommend that soft-topped luggage be used due to limited storage space.
Is there a laundry service?
The cost of laundry service is not included in train fares. It is only available at certain destinations. For more information, it is best to contact your butler.
Is the train accessible for those in wheel chairs?
It is not possible to accommodate passengers in wheelchairs due to the dimensions and layout of the train. Passengers with minor walking problems can be accommodated. It is suggested that a person who can walk with ease accompany the passenger. If there are any special requirements, they should be informed at the time you book.
How is the climate controlled on the train?
Maharajas Express has central air conditioning. Each cabin is equipped with a temperature control device that allows you to adjust the temperature according to your preferences.
Is the Maharajas Express safe?
Maharajas Express, one of India’s most luxurious and well-known trains, offers an experience as luxurious as it is safe. Each cabin is equipped with an electronic safe. Live television, CCTVs and electronic smoke detectors are also available in the public areas. The Pneumatic Suspension system will provide you with a comfortable ride. A water filter plant is also available. Hygiene standards are maintained. A paramedic is on duty 24 hours a day and an air ambulance is also available.

You can if you let us know when you book the train. We will make every effort to meet all requests, but we cannot provide meals that require strict religious observance.
